Weather reports were dismal on the lead up to this match, with a heavy chance we were all going to get wet… but the Midport AC luck held out and a small drizzle early on was all we got.

With most of the league never fished or even seen this venue, this match would not be down to insider info, it would all depend on the peg and the methods used.

Match 7 – Old Hough – 9th September 2018 – 17 fished

With this being a local venue for our club, there was promise of weights upwards of 100lb in previous matches (not from our club thou).

A lot of entries had been fishing these lakes for the last few weeks, wanting to test baits and tactics before this big match.

Match 6 – Blundells Fishery – 5th August 2018 – 16 fished

A short walk round the 2 lakes did show some promise.  With a few good reasons why we had both lakes booked as we would have struggled to get all 16 of us on one.

Pegging out was done and the draw a little delayed, but all setup.

Few fishermen (or boys) moaning about their peg, as they struggled to fit their huge boxes.  But by 9.30 all-in and settled.

Match 5 – Border Fisheries – 8th July 2018 – 18 fished

What a fantastic day !!

We started at 7.30am in the Cafe for a full English at the very reasonable price of £5.50..

With full bellies we drew at the water, and what a water it was.  The were carp topping all over the canal, every peg had something to give.

With the blazing sun, the fish looking hungry, we knew it was not going to disappoint.

Match 4 – Fields Farm – 10th Jun 2018 – 17 fished

Not the match lake, but that didn’t matter.

The sun was bright, the day was hot.. a little too hot.

Seems the big fish wanted to stay down one end of the lake, where the was only 1 person, and it had to be a new comer with beginners luck on his side.

With almost all catching, and those that didn’t catch, caught the sun instead.

Match 3 – Holmston Hall – 15th Apr 2018 – 17 fished

Well what a venue…

All panic on the runup with only 18 spaces was not a problem, with only 17 managing to make this match.

Early morning recy showed that peg 4 was in need of some pruning, as such was left out of the draw.  All pegs were hard, stable standing, with some nice boggy grass to get to them.

Match 2 – Brookside fisheries – 25th Mar 2018 – 18 fished across Kingfisher and Meadow

What a lovely start to the day, losing 1 hour in bed with almost all fishermen remembering to put their alarm clocks forward.

The sun was shining, the owner of Brookside walked us around the 2 lakes ensuring we had the right pegs for the best chance.  10 on Kingfisher and 8 on Meadow hoping to be a great day.

Match 1 – Home farm fisheries – 25th Feb 2018 – 16 fished

The match was cold, and a cutting breeze that could freeze off your fingers..  but that didn’t stop Midport from venturing out for their first match of the 2018 season.

With an 8am draw, a stop for Maccies or butty van was a must for most.
