Match 10 – Weston Pools – Clay Pit – 15th October 2023 – 11 fished
Well what a season we have had, and to end on a venue a great as Weston pools was a delight. Very well kept, and a great breakfast to start the day off.
Getting to the pit was a little cold in the shade, with myself (Simon) donning gloves to keep my hands from freezing…
Sun was out, and it soon warmed up to a crisp 10deg!
After out last match and Paul’s almost 100lb catch and drawing golden peg again, high and drawing a right dolly peg, the mumors of Golden peg definately going went across the lake.
Plumbing up at this place was daft though. With a 6ft margin rig, and a crazy 12ft deep at top 2+1 and a not so shallow, shallow rig was a crazy setup for any match.
Paul started well, catching steady along with Pete H and Alan both starting off well, putting some fish in the net. I myself had a good first hour with 6 F1s on waggler to start the match with about 12lb, but I keeping an eye on Paul looked like he was bagging (must have been soft elastic).
Poor Rob on peg 36, although had a whole corner to himself, sat freezing in the shade, and couldn’t get a bite, until last hour where he managed 1 decent F1 for his final weigh-in.
To keep the suspense further, we opt’d to weigh Paul in towards the end, with shouts of 50lb plus it looked inevitable… with a good weight registered and took the lead, with just 1 weigh in left, the drama was great. However, he was just pipped by his own cousin (ME!!), although he played it off as a cool cucumber, you could see the disappointment in his face… love it !!
Anyway, what a fantastic season it has been. With a new set of podium placers behind the ultimate member Scott now on 4 out of 5 league wins, and an impressive 5 match streak of 1st places.
With 2024 now all booked up, we look forward to freezing at our Fur n Feather in Novemeber, and getting drunk at our agm in Feb.
