Match 8 – Hampton Springs Fishery – Meadows – 3rd September 2023 – 12 fished
A new venue for some but a new pond for all, Meadows certainly looked the business. Steve O’Reilly’s comment of ‘Anything goes’ was quickly contradicted by a full set of rules on entry to the venue but confidence was high, even after a few dicey pegs had to be swapped out.
With rumours of 100lb+ pleasure nets and match-winning weights of barbel, there was a positive buzz on the pond early doors. With plummets spooking fish on the deck, Meadows seemed solid. People even joked about 3 nets or 4 to kick off with.
Like many a Midport match, a good day wasn’t had. The scorching hot sun gave Scott Harding knee blisters and led to relatively low weights with Rick Golden even doing an early dart to catch the football. Remi looked to have lost the match when a 15lb carp burst through his landing net, but it didn’t make a difference in the end.
Winning tactics on the day were corn over micros in the edge (Remi & Simon) and a thrifty approach from Tim feeding as little as possible just on the slope.
(Overall winner) – Andrew Reynolds (42lb 11oz) – £50
(Section winner) – Tim Morton (36lb 10oz) – £30
(Section winner) – Simon Nadin (31lb 0oz) – £30
