Match 7 – Cudmore – Moors Canal – 20th August 2023 – 12 fished
Not many people seemed to recall the tactics used on Moors from the club’s last visit to Cudmore in 2021 but we all remembered Paul acquiring the nickname ‘Gudgeon Master’ from peg 5. Paul asked early on that the peg be removed from the draw. Armed with a pint of maggots this time he was returning with the lofty goal of a 2 Gudgeon minimum bag.
Breakfast was available from 07:00 as always but this time fishery pellets were optional not mandatory. With the last 3 matches rain-sodden affairs the forecast was for a dry sunny day and so it panned out. The vulgar Scouse accents were replaced this match with the refined sounds of Stockport folk up on Suez.
Simon Nadin took the spoils on our last visit to Moors and with the Golden Peg in his back pocket the whispers of ‘It’s going Today’ had been circulating. With his 14:00 declaration on WhatsApp this wouldn’t be the case there was hope for everyone.
Fishing was hard at times during the day but those who persevered long on the deck got their rewards. The sun seemed to hinder those fishing shallow with none of Today’s prey happy with poles over their heads. Rick Golden had seen all he wanted to by 15:00 and packed up but this was the same time Scott Harding had a crazy last hour for 55lb in the edge.
Winning tactics on the day were dead reds over ground bait in the edge (Scott), banded pellet long (Paul) and punched meat long (Steve)… A nice Stopfordian 1,2
#cockofthematch was Steve O’Reilly who cursed like a trooper for over an hour after finding out he’d just manicured an edge swim that wasn’t even in the match let alone his.
(Overall winner) – Scott Harding (80lb 14oz) – £50
(Section winner) – Paul Nadin (45lb 10oz) – £30
(Section winner) – Steve O’Reilly (41lb 7oz) – £30
