19th Jul 2020 – Match 6 – Brookside (Kingfisher)

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 6 – Brookside – Kingfisher – 19th July 2020 – 11 fished

Dwindelled numbers due to various holidays and other issues showed only 12 on this match.  Originally we had both Kingfisher AND Meadow booked, but will low numbers was decided on a vote basis that we should just have the 1 lake… maybe this was the reason for the low weights who knows.

A lovely sunny day, if you were on the right bank, but with a cool wind that stopped you holding your pole for too long at 14/16m.

Fish were topping but […]

13th Jul 2020 – Match 3 – Fields Farm (Farm Pool)

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 3 – Fields Farm – Far Pool – 13th July 2020 – 14 fished

Match 3… well sort of match 5 but this was the match that had to be postponed due to Covid-19 stopping play.

A very warm day, with sun shining and no cover saw some very red skin at the end of a gruelling day. Most fishermen struggled with the odd fish or odd bite all day. The carp were topping, but just not feeding.

The lake was a little disappointing in terms of dead reeds covering a peg, trees […]

28th June 2020 – Match 5 – Brookside Fisheries

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 5 – Brookside Fisheries – Kingfisher / Meadow – 28th June 2020 – 13 fished

Match 5 a rearranged match from Buntys to Brookside due to allowed peg numbers.  Unfortunately due to cancellations we could have had the match at Buntys in the end.

With everyone having plenty of room and split across 2 lakes.  Plenty of hope.  The weather was tough for thoses on Meadow with a blustery wind. Rain showed heavy at points.  But so did the fish.  With everyone catching fish.

Some struggled to pick off any margin beasts, where others seemed […]

7th Jun 2020 – Match 4 – Fields Farm

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 4 – Fields Farm – Far Hope – 7th Jun 2020 – 19 fished

Match 4 after a long lockdown and no fishing to everything opening back up.  Everyone was egar to get back into match fishing and really looking forward to it.

A new style draw seemed to be a hit, with the draw being done live on Facebook the night before.  Allowing those who like plenty of time to have it, and those who don’t to have that extra time in bed.  Or in Joe Rice’s case have a morning from hell […]

15th Mar 2020 – Match 2 – Old Hough

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 2 – Old Hough – Lower Benbo – 15th March 2020 – 16 fished Match 2 showed another tough day.  All seemed calm when setting up, with a few opt’ing for the long pole.

As always, once you start fishing the weather changes and the wind picked up, with those on the long pole struggling again to hold. So feeders and down the track seemed a sensible option.

Very slow start to the day, with pockets of fish appearing on certain pegs and no one catching all day consistently.  Some lovely little stockies coming out […]

23rd Feb 2020 – Match 1 – Fields Farm

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 1 – Fields Farm – Big Beam – 23rd Feburary 2020 – 17 fished

Start to a new season today.  With us all looking forward to it so much, and for many this is the first time out since last year we were setting off positive.  Weather seemed to be holding during draw and setup so looked for a good day.

Then it started, winds that could blow a brollie half way up the lake or snap it.  Rods that on first cast were snapping in half. Flasks falling into the water and pole […]

27th October – Old Hough – Upper Benbo 2019

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 9 – Old Hough Fisheries – Upper Benbo – 27th October 2019 – 16 fished

The day before today’s match was like the heavens had opened and we should all be looking for Noah and his boat.  A quick call into Old Hough and we were re-assured that the fishery hadn’t been affected and all was good for us.

We also realised the clocks go back, so gaining an extra hour in bed is always a bonus start to a Sunday match.

With some VERY late arrivals all were pegged out and ready to start… […]

21st September – Home Farm 2019

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 8 – Home Farm Fisheries – 21st September 2019 – 15 fished

A very wet start, with thunder and lightening from about 5.30am was not a way to pack the car ready for a fishing match.

On arrival we noticed some of the pegging has been upgraded (and some hadn’t) so a quick walk around and the pegs were picked.

The rain stopped just in time to start setting up and with just a quick down pour at lunchtime we did very well.

Slow start today for every except this weeks winner, who started catching decent […]

4th August – Gorsty Hall 2019

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 7 – Gorsty Hall – 4th August 2019 – 12 fished

New venue for Midport Gorsty Hall.  A few had fished it earlier in the week and had a good session, so was all looking positive, except the weather reports that gave rain from the off !

Well 8am draw, and skys are blue and air is warm.  The water was alive with fish, half the lake was taken up with Carp over-nighters who were pushing out big rods and bait, looking like we might need to bulk up today.

Steve O’Reilly is welcomed back, […]

21st July – Buntys 2019

Pegs, Weights and Points

Match 6 – Buntys – 21st July 2019 – 14 fished

Missing some big names at this match, looked like could be easy points for a few people.

The match was off and most people looked like to be flying, with some feisty carp bombing about and cruising on the top.

Patrick had a personal best with a 4th place and was catching most of the day, few moans about pegs and washing lines from the usual culprit (Rick) but the weather held out and a good day was had by all.

A visit from Steve O […]
