Match 9 – Moss Farm Fisheries – Lilys – 17th September 2023 – 11 fished

364 days since the Midport massive last fished Lilys but, unfortunately, we weren’t blessed with last year’s victor Andrew Reynolds. Catching an impressive winning weight of 82lb 15oz many were looking forward to another good day’s fishing. A very light rain greeted the anglers but before long, some would say, we had ideal fishing conditions. A mild breeze and good cloud cover meant the fish seemed to be in the upper layers.

Match 8 – Hampton Springs Fishery – Meadows – 3rd September 2023 – 12 fished

A new venue for some but a new pond for all, Meadows certainly looked the business. Steve O’Reilly’s comment of ‘Anything goes’ was quickly contradicted by a full set of rules on entry to the venue but confidence was high, even after a few dicey pegs had to be swapped out.

Match 7 – Cudmore – Moors Canal – 20th August 2023 – 12 fished

Not many people seemed to recall the tactics used on Moors from the club’s last visit to Cudmore in 2021 but we all remembered Paul acquiring the nickname ‘Gudgeon Master’ from peg 5. Paul asked early on that the peg be removed from the draw. Armed with a pint of maggots this time he was returning with the lofty goal of a 2 Gudgeon minimum bag.

Match 6 – Blundells – East and West – 23rd July 2023 – 14 fished

Midport anglers returned to Blundells Fishery for the first time since the inaugural 2018 season.

On arrival it was clear we were going to get a good soaking for the third consecutive match.

Dodging goose shit was near-on impossible for some anglers on pegs 1 – 19 but everyone was affected by the untrustworthy twang of loud-mouth Scouser’s on neighbouring pools.

Match 3 – Izaak – Canal – 11th June 2023 – 14 fished

Started the morning with a great breakfast from the new Chef.  Very good way to start a Sunday.

Weather was HOT!! with the Canal lake, every peg is identical and not really any fish over 3lb this made for an interesting match.  Shall fishing seemed to be the method of choice feeding casters and fishing maggots.

Match 2 – Heronbrook – Match Lake – 14th May 2023 – 18 fished

Well what a venue this is.  Well stocked lakes, every peg looked after. Park behind your peg. Couldn’t ask for a better match venue.

With the hope of some big fish and large weights well into the 100s coming out everyone started hopeful, with some reports of over 30lb carp in this lake, we even had the carp lads bringing their carp rods for a bash.

Golden peg was Tim Moreton, and today’s result was less of a curse and more of some of the same

Match 10 – Partridge Lakes – Spey Canal – 30th October 2022 – 16 fished

Unfortunately, one of our worst matches of the year.  Not sure if this is down to the venue, the weather, too many on the lake. But it was a tough day all round, with hardly any fish showing up to play.  Most nets as you will see from the gallery were coming from small silvers and the odd bonus carp or F1.
